About SCARFTHE SCARF has been developed over the last twenty years to fill a gap in the assessment of children. It is hard to interview children and find out what they think about multiple family members on various dimensions: they have limited ability to communicate their perceptions and limited attention spans.
We have developed a technique that is engaging, enables children to express their feelings and perceptions about a number of family members in a non-verbal way (stamping boxes) and can be given in about thirty minutes. This technique grew out of research that Mary Lund conducted at the Family Research Center in the Social and Political Sciences Tripos at the University of Cambridge in England. It has been refined in the United States and published in the Journal of Child Custody in 2010.
